No fear in love
One of my (many) struggles is fear. I’ll admit it; I can be a scaredy-cat. Passing people while driving scares me sometimes; specially if I’m not the one driving and I feel like there should be more room allowed to pass. I don’t even like taking a shower when I’m home alone in case something happens in the apartment that I can’t hear. It used to terrify me to open the door after a shower; I was sure there would be someone waiting for me outside.
God doesn’t want us to be afraid, though. 1 John 4:18 tells us,
“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.” (NKJV)
Our God is a God of love; He is defined by love. He doesn’t want us to live our lives in fear.
I know that bad things happen. People get hurt, or sick. God will protect us, though. Remember that it’s not the things of the world that matter. We already know that our physical bodies won’t last forever. Whether it comes suddenly in a wreck, or of old age, death will come. God sees the Big Picture. We don’t.
Jesus said, “Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name.” (John 17:11)
What more can we ask for?
I know that fears don’t always suddenly disappear, or become resolved. But when something is scary, pray and ask God to help you defeat that fear. He is in control; He is watching out for us. As the VeggieTales movie teaches, God is bigger than the Boogeyman. If God is for us, who can be against us?
